General Competences

1. Having the general professional knowledge on horticulture
2. Planning, applying and observing all the manufacturing process on horticulture; identifying the agricultural machines and utensils
3. Perceiving the place of horticultural crops in the systematic, their botanical and ecological features, and the growing techniques of them
4. Having basic information about cell and organ structure and physiology of the plants; vital activities; the relationship among plant, water and earth; meteorological conditions; plant ecology; environmental problems; and organic agriculture and its principles
5. Knowing the greenhouse cultivation and being able to practice it in terms of vegetable gardening; being able to make seedling and young plants cultivation and to reproduce them
6. Having knowledge on irrigation methods, earth types, and earth cultivation, fertilizer types, plant nutrition and fertilizing; and practicing them
7. Identifying crab grasses and the horticultural crops diseases and mites; and dealing with them
8. Having knowledge on agricultural economics, economics terms and principles, structural aspects of agricultural activities and the issues of the problems of agriculture sector
9. Having knowledge on the issues on determining production problems and planning, applying and following the studies for the solutions ,the role of extension service on agricultural development
10. Being able to use computer software related to the field, data processing and communication technology effectively
11. Being able to identify, collect, analyze, interpret the data related to the field and to propose solutions
12. Being able to use verbal and written Turkish effectively
13. Being able to know one foreign language at a level that enables him/her to communicate with his/her colleagues and to follow the knowledge in the foreign field literature
14. Deciding on a specific topic on one issue on horticultural crops as an individual or a group member, doing literature researches on the issue, making synthesis, rewriting and presenting the gathered data
