Niğde was known as "NAHİTA" in ancient times and has cultural remains belonging to the earliest people dating back as far as the 600,000 B.C.
It has emerged from ongoing archaeological excavations that there has been continuous settlement of the Niğde area starting 10,000 years ago in the Neolithic and Chalcolitic Ages until the present day. Nowadays there still exists much evidence of a range of historical periods. Furthermore, with its university, health and educational institutions and a modern, well-established town, Niğde is at the heart of province specialising in spas, mountain climbing and camping.
Home to many historical remains and museums, Nİğde, situated in Capadocia, is definitely worth a visit.
